Most expensive outfit ever

The semester is wrapping up at Postdoc U. The rotation students are finished, my undergrad had her last day and the normal services (like the coffee place) are starting to decrease their hours and will soon be shut down for summer. Except for the lack of coffee, Postdoc U seems like it will be a nice place for the summer. I'm forming a writing date group and am looking forward to finishing up current data and starting new projects. It is all going so fast!

I am back at the homestead (yay!) for my graduation ceremony this weekend. I am going to the hooding ceremony but not the actual commencement. It seems like a nice ceremony which is always followed by lots of champagne...
My mom is flying in today and we are having a little party afterwards. Things have been so busy with the new lab that I haven't seen any of my school friends since February...

I picked up my regalia this afternoon. They are just rentals but I hope to buy my own fancy set someday when I get a job and have my own students. Those things cost more than my rent! The day they are delivered, I am going to put on my wedding dress and my robes and just hang out around my house in the most expensive outfit I will ever wear.

That made me laugh! The image of someone wearing this wedding dress under her robes is just hilarious. Thanks for the mental image! :-D

Ha, ha. That's hilarious.

And not a bad idea. I was kinda bummed to have to take my wedding dress off...seems like a short time to wear such an expensive/fancy/pretty outfit.

You could just start wearing the hood around all the time, though (even without the robe). ;-)

Ha ha ha.

Perhaps this will make me sound completely vain, but my goal is to someday have an outfit MORE expensive than my wedding dress. My dress was not particularly expensive (I mean, when you think about the fact that I will never wear it again, it was... but in comparison to most, it was not), so someday I want to have a fabulous event to attend and go so overboard that I top my wedding dress. In something that is not white, so I CAN actually wear it again. Like, perhaps, when I am the Mother of the Bride someday in 30 years?

Oh, the hooding ceremony is great! If nothing else, you get to see all the funny-looking regalia the faculty will wear. Congratulations!

Amanda- Mine wasn't a typical princess-y type wedding dress. But the full-skirted ball gown would surely make the outfit complete!

SGG- I wish we didn't archive mine. If it were just in my closet I would wear it all the time around the house. I also loved carrying the bouquet. Wish there were more occasions where that is appropriate!

Thanks UR! The things we think of in boring seminars =)

EtBr- that is a good goal! A good suit, coat and shoes would probably be close to equaling my wedding dress. Or we can all just start going to galas!

Mad Hatter- My advisor loooooves his robes because of the very bright colors. He thinks his are the most ridiculous and therefore, best =)
