This is a little weird but it is nothing compared to what it really means. I have to move on. Like, for real and right now. In the next 6 weeks I will move to a charming new city, start in a new position in a new lab, new department, on a new project and study system. All this stuff is exciting, but moving on means leaving too. This week, talking about the details of turning in my keys was probably more difficult than my revisions.
The first transition I have to make is getting back to having a life! I can blog (and blog read) regularly again! We have piles of laundry you wouldn't believe and I haven't baked in months. The Grackle is happy to not cook every meal and I'm even excited about keeping the dishes clean these days. It might not be an exciting life, but it feels so nice to get back to it.

I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like -- after being in one place for so long, the lab feels more like home than my own home does!
But, it must be SO EXCITING to be done! I cannot WAIT to no longer be a student (which could be forever... Husband is really pushing law school when I finally graduate...).
This is great! I'm so glad life is being good to you. Enjoy it all the more for those who aren't in that spot right now!
I can't imagine the feeling! Enjoy having your life back!
Yay for you!
You might have mentioned this before, but what is the Grackle doing? Will he be finishing soon too? Going to the same new place as you? It's getting tricky as EGM and I start to think about post docs because we might not finish at exactly the same time. It looks like the first one to finish will get to choose the place and that seems undesirable.
EthidiumBromide -- he's pushing law school for you? or himself?
EGF - He wants *me* to go to law school after I'm done. It's not totally out of left field, though - my whole life, as far back as I can remember (since I was 3), my family and teachers have been pushing me to go to law school. Knowing what I know now, I think pharmaceutical law or biotech patent law would probably be a better fit for me, but I'm not really keen on the idea of doing even MORE school. I kind of just want to get my Ph.D... and run free!
(Plus, my husband is was a huge Cosby Show fan, so I think the appeal of him being an M.D. and me getting a law degree and living like his childhood favorite TV show just blows his mind.)
Saw from Brazen Hussy that you successfully defended - and I had to come by and say congrats!!! Wooohooo, that is awesome!!! :):)
Thanks PhizzleDizzle!
EtBr: I can't imagine law school AFTER the phd. The biotech patent stuff would be fascinating though!
EGF: Grackle has at least 2.5 years left so he is not going with me to Postdoc City. I will post more about the situation soon.
Belle and ScienceGirl- I am enjoying it! I haven't done much work (besides organizing my office- which I loooove doing), have been going out and even won at poker night!
